Description of Job 

Provision of linguistic QA knowledge and expertise in Babel’s PC and Console Quality Assurance department where the company provides testing services for the world’s leading games publishers. The job entails testing games following structured testing methodologies and producing bug reports for submission to Babel’s clients. Produce bug reports to the highest possible specified linguistic and quality standards (specifically with reference to hardware manufacturers’ standards and terminology).

Scope of Role :

Day to day execution of assigned projects, including testing of localized games, linguistic review, translation and production of test reports as required by the QA Coordination team.

Ensuring all project deliverables comply with company and client quality standards as defined by the Quality Standards Manager.

Key Responsibilities:

Day-to-day execution of localization or compliance QA test cases as directed by the Quality Assurance Coordinator or Senior Tester as appropriate to the project
Reporting localization and compliance bugs and raising alerts regarding major issues related to project bugs, timeframe of tasks assigned or checklist inadequacies

Requirements

Prior experience as a localization engineer in another translation companies (at least 3 years)

Extensive use of SDL Trados and some knowledge of the most relevant CAT Tools existing in the market would be a plus.
Extensive use of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook, and Internet browsers 
Knowledge of InDesign, QuarkXPress, PageMaker, FrameMaker, Photoshop, and Illustrator 
Some knowledge of web programming languages a plus (HTML, XML, ASP, JSP)

The localisation engineer plays a key engineering role in day-to-day translation/localisation projects.

Responsibilities

Create and improve localisation workflows in close cooperation with the clients
Maintain localisation kits provided by the clients: prepare data for quotes, maintain translatable content during the translation process, prepare delivery kits
Build, compile and test localised products
Automate the workflow processes, drive, implement and document best localisation practices
Help third party vendors and other engineers with any localisation-related issues

Requirements

Work experience in a similar position, not necessarily in a translation agency structure
Hands-on experience with various tools: SDL Trados, SDLX, Wordfast, MemoQ, Swordfish, Heartsome, LocStudio/Helium, RC-WinTrans, Passolo

The projects are typically large scale, multilingual game translations with related documentation such as web sites, help texts, instruction manuals etc. Our clients are using tools such as SDLX to manage the quality and efficiency for the localisation projects. The job entails technical delivery of projects to the highest possible specified quality standards according to schedules and budgets agreed between the Project Manager and the client. You will achieve this through careful evaluation, planning and implementation of the most efficient tools and processes to the technical execution of the project.

Main Responsibilities Include

Pre-engineering and Loc kit creation for multiple content formats (software, help, web-sites, applications, databases and various document formats)
Utilizing industry standard tools and processes (Trados, SDLX and other TM/CAT technologies)
Post-engineering and validation of the integrity of files before client delivery 
Performing spot-check QA on externally localized pieces to ensure technical accuracy.
Localisation process automation, infrastructure enhancement
Management of translation memory, glossary, and style guides, including leveraging and word-count management. 
Execution of the end-to-end Localisation process. 
Working closely with our clients’ development teams to complete externalization and enabling of suspect code. 
Providing technical assistance for other team members.

Localisation Engineer – entry to mid level Larsen Globalisation

Our client is a world-class producer of printers and office systems, based in Hertfordshire (30 mins from London). They are now looking for a Localisation Engineer with some experience of localisation tools. This can be on an entry level. The contract is initially for six months, with a good possibility of extension. 

This job is an excellent opportunity to start in the localisation industry. It provides those in this position a solid and practical working knowledge of the latest developments in translation tools, processes and technologies and depending on their aspirations and abilities can lead to other technical or project coordination roles.

Job Purpose

Provide technical support to translation projects up to the value of $1m. Handle the technical processing of translation files, from file preparation to creation of deliverables, running checking tools and fixing of issues.

Principal Accountabilities

Pre-process and post-process files for translation using a variety of localisation tools
Troubleshoot and fix any translation memory processing issues
Run file-checks on localised files and fix issues
Report issues you cannot fix and track to conclusion
Liaise with translators and other staff as appropriate to resolve issues
Pilot processes and checklists and suggest process improvements
Ensure localised deliverables are ready for handoff

Education and Background Experience

Qualification in  Computing or related degree
Knowledge of Trados or other translation memory tools
Knowledge of MS Project, operating systems (Windows, UNIX and Mac OS), networks and industry-standard software (ToolProof, Help/HTML QA, RoboHelp, Webworks, Search and Replace scripts, Beyond Compare)
Knowledge of second language – helpful but not essential

Localization Engineer Grade 3 
(Computer Aided Translation (CAT) Specialist)

Description of job:

The Localisation Engineer Grade 3 typically has responsibility for managing a team(s) on substantial engineering projects, both in terms of project and HR duties. An engineer of this grade may also be a highly experienced technical specialist..

Main Responsibilities include:

Manages a substantial engineering project or projects.
Owns or participates in the improvement of the engineering or production processes on a customer account.
Works with project PMs to ensure that engineering activities are in line with project budget and scope. 
Provides support to Grade 1 and Grade 2 engineers.
May have HR responsibilities for direct reports, including timesheet approval, Performance reviews, employee grievances, team morale, performance issues and holiday approval (in conjunction with Engineering Manager).
Develops automation and custom solutions for accounts.
Contributes to the development of the engineering strategy for the account.
Owns or contributes to departmental initiatives.
Provides detailed reporting to Senior Engineer, Project Manager or client on project status, including progress towards milestones, relevant trends in bug data and issues threatening deadlines or budgets.
Has responsibility for the financial well being of the project – engineering budget is managed and overall awareness of project budget

Note: Where required it is expected that an engineer of this grade performs the duties of lower grades. 

Responsibilities unique to the CAT Specialist role

Performing and managing CAT tasks

Good knowledge of at least one programming language. Familiarity with several programming languages.
Excellent knowledge of common productivity applications (e.g. Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.).
