LRC XIII, the 13th Internationalisation and Localisation Conference organised by the Localisation Research Centre, will take place on 02-03 October 2008 at the Marino Institute of Education in Drumcondra, Dublin, Ireland with a pre-conference day taking place in Dublin on 01 October. The theme for this year's conference will be Localisation4All, and the conference will focus on the provision of quality localisation services for people world-wide.

The first day of the conference will feature a 'Localisation Update', looking at developments and important issues in the Localisation Industry. Experts from both the enterprise and independent field will feature strongly in this day and subjects will range from the localisation decision to terminology, to open source and open standards. 

The second day of the conference will explore the idea of "Localisation4All". The concept that good quality localisation should be made available to people world wide as a necessity for their inclusion in the multilingual digital world. This day will feature presentations, talks and discussions on the initiatives and ideas that are aimed at facilitating and improving localisation and localisation processes for people regardless of their location or financial situation.

Social Events

Wednesday 01 October:  Pre-Conference Meetup - Fagans Pub, Drumcondra, Drumcondra, Dublin 9

A pre-conference meetup will take place in the famous “Fagans Pub” in Drumcondra at 19:00 on Wednesday 01 October. This pub is very close to the Constituency Office of former Taoiseach (prime minister) Bertie Aherne and has had some very high profile visitors, such as former US President Bill Clinton,  due to being Bertie’s “local”.

All conference attendees are invited, so if you're around please call in.

Thursday 02 October:  Conference Reception - The Bank Bar, College Green, Dublin City Centre

The main conference reception will take place in the Bank Bar on College Green at 20:00 on Thursday 02 October. This will be a be a casual gathering that will allow conference participants to get to know each other in a relaxed atmosphere

Once again all conference attendees are invited, but you must let the LRC know if you intend coming so that we can arrange the right amount of refreshments. If you're coming email us on LRC@ul.ie

Keynote Speakers

There will be two keynote speeches at this event. 

The first keynote for will be given by Kate Losse, product manager for internationalisation and localisation at Facebook in Palo Alto, California. This keynote will look the methods Facebook has developed and is developing to assess and control the quality of crowd-sourced translations. click here for more information

The second keynote will be given by Lori Thicke, General Manager of Lexcelera. Lori will talk about how we, in the localisation industry, are in a unique position to bridge the digital and language divide to ensure fair and equal access to knowledge for those that really need it. click here for more information
