7th LRC Internationalisation and Localisation Summer School

The 7th LRC Internationalisation and Localisation Summer School will take place at the University of Limerick from 29 July to 01 August 2008

Offered in conjunction with The Institute of Localisation Professional (TILP) Certified Localisation Professional Programme (CLP), this course will provide participants with an introduction to the most important concepts in Software Localisation and Internationalisation, as well as providing a skills foundation that will be applicable in the industry.

TILP CLP Level 1 Certification

The Summer School will consist of a combination of ten self-learning online modules and a four-day onsite intensive training and examinations session. All successful participants will receive TILP Level 1 CLP Certification.

Online & Onsite Courses

The course takes place in two parts. First, a self-learning online course encompassing 10 modules dealing with basic localisation theory and practice. The second part of the course is an intensive four day onsite training program consisting of 3 days general localisation training and one day of region-specific training.

The online modules are:

Introduction to Information Technology 
Localisation & the Software Engineering Lifecycle 
Software I18N Enablement and Character Handling 
Localisation Kitting and File Preparation
MS Windows-based User Interface Localisation Tools 
MS Windows- based Computer Assisted Translation (CAT) Tools
Introduction to terminology, term bases and how to create/set up terminology resources 
Introduction to test plans, scripts/cases, bug reporting & classification
Introduction to website localisation 
Introduction to localisation project management 

These training courses have been designed from the ground up by experts from both industry and academia. Each of the 10 online modules consists of a either three of four presentations accompanied by a reader document that expands upon the points in the presentation. A reading list is provided for each module so that students can find more background material on the topic and a self-assessment test allows students to test their knowledge on what they have just learned.

A number of modules also contain demo files and hands-on exercises which can be completed to provide the participant with experience in dealing with the files and tools used in specific areas of localisation.

Tools Distribution

Participants will also receive a special CLP Tools Distribution that includes full versions of:

Alchemy Catalyst 7.0 Translator/Pro Edition*
SDL Trados 2007 SP2 Freelance Edition*
SDL Passolo 2007+

Successful participants will receive, covered by their course fees, permanent licenses of Alchemy Catalyst 7.0 Tanslator/Pro Edition (list price €499 euro) and SDL Trados 2007 SP2 Freelance Edition (list price €795 euro).

SDL Trados Level 1 Certification

As part of the course participants will complete an exam for SDL Trados Level 1 Certification during the onsite component of the course (included in course fees).
