LRC announces
2009 Best Thesis and Best Scholar Award Winners

On 11 September 2009, the expert panel invited by the Localisation Research Centre (LRC) to select the winners of the 13th Annual LRC Best Thesis Award and 7th annual LRC Best Scholar Award met to review the submissions received by the LRC. The panel session was facilitated by the LRC and Symantec Corporation and supported by the Centre for Next Generation Localisation (CNGL).
The LRC expressed its gratitude to the panel members for making their time and their industrial and academic expertise available to the panel over the past years. The LRC thanked Symantec Ireland and con[text] for their generous sponsorship and support of the awards. This is the fifth consecutive year of con[text]’s and the thirteenth consecutive year of Symantec's support. The LRC is also very happy to acknowledge the support of the Centre for Next Generation Localisation (CNGL) for the second year running.
LRC Best Thesis Award 2009
The winner of the 2009 LRC Best Thesis Award is Hany Hassan. The panel and the LRC would like to congratulate Hany Hassan on his outstanding work and wish him every success for the future.
The title of the Thirteenth Annual 2009 LRC Best Thesis is Lexical Syntax for Statistical Machine Translation, a dissertation submitted to Dublin City University in fulfilment of the requirements for the award of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.), under the supervision of Prof Andy Way.
LRC Best Scholar Award 2009
The winner of the 2009 LRC Best Scholar Award is Ruwan Asanka Wasala for his proposal 'Localisation File Formats, Tools Compatibility and Format Conversion'. He is studying at the University of Limerick for a Master of Science. The panel and the Localisation Research Centre would like to congratulate Ruwan on his outstanding proposal and wish him every success with the implementation of his research project.
