 SDL adquires Language Partners International (LIP)  

January 9, 2002  --  SDL plc (London StockE xchange: “SDL”), a leading provider of globalization solutions, announced today that it has acquired Language Partners International (LPI), for an undisclosed sum.
With this acquisition, SDL will form a new Desktop Products Division led by Brian Briggs, former CEO of LPI. This new division will be focused exclusively on product sales and operate autonomously from SDL’s localization services divisions. In addition to responsibilities as Vice President of the new SDL Desktop Products Division, Briggs will continue asg eneral manager of LPI, serving its customer base as a wholly owned subsidiary of SDL.

The recently announced “SDL Localization Suite” is the first manifestation of these capabilities. Combining proven Translation Memory, Machine Translation and Project control capabilities with industry leading Quality Assurance technologies and a visual localization environment, “SDL Localization Suite” provides a breadth of high-value functionality never before seen in a localization product.”

Customers of the various software packages include Air Canada, Berlitz Globalnet, Bowne Global Solutions, Lionbridge, NCR, Novell and RBC Financial Group.
