The Institute of Localisation Professionals (TILP) announces merger with Professional Association for Localization (PAL)

Dublin, Ireland (12 May 2003) - The Institute of Localisation Professionals (TILP), headquartered in Dublin, Ireland, and the U.S.-based Professional Association of Localization (PAL) have agreed to a merger. Both organisations focus on the needs of individual localisation professionals. The goal of the merger is to advance their shared mission by combining each organisation's strengths and eliminating organisational redundancies. 

The consolidated organisation will retain the name TILP. Current PAL members have been offered free TILP membership

IWIPS 2003: Where East Meets West

The 5th Annual International Workshop on Internationalisation of Products and Systems (IWIPS 2003) is scheduled to take place in Berlin, Germany from 17-19 July. The program will cover internationalisation and localisation in reference to e-business and web applications, case studies, usability, methods and processes, mobile applications and design guidelines.  Keynote speakers are Bert Esselink, Lionbridge, NL; Nancy Hoft, Nancy Hoft Consulting, USA, and Pat O’Sullivan, IBM, Ireland. TRADOS 6 Released

TRADOS Inc, recently launched their TRADOS 6 LSP (Language Service Provider) and TRADOS 6 Freelance products. As well as improvements in translation memory manageability, quality assurance and language support, TRADOS 6 offers single and multilanguage vendors 100% compatibility with the translation memories of their clients. TRADOS 6 supports all widely used file formats in the translation community so that translators and translation companies can translate Adobe InDesign 2.0, FrameMaker 7.0 and QuarkXPress 5 documents.

Because of extensive Unicode refinements, TRADOS 6 now supports a number of new languages, including Maltese, Malaysian and Tagalog. Support for other languages such as Vietnamese and Serbian has been enhanced. Even complex chains of Unicode characters are now fully preserved during translation.

Launch of SDLinsight 2003

SDL Desktop Products, a division of SDL International that delivers globalisation productivity products, has launched SDLinsight 2003. The software provides new features previously unavailable for localising Windows and .NET software applications. The software offers extended SQL Server support that allows SDLinsight to work with large projects without having to tediously break up an application into smaller parts. It also has full VBScript support for superior process automation and integration. Its "Binary Chop" feature automates the process of locating strings with localisation problems. Its true .NET localisation support based on the MS .NET Framework allows SDLinsight to handle more resource types in an error-free process.

An Increasing Number of Staff at VistaTEC

VistaTEC, a globalisation services provider, continues to grow even in the current economic downturn. VistaTEC has increased its staff by over 25% in the last year. As the level of business grows and the technical requirements increase, VistaTEC has added expertise to meet changing needs, while continuing to remain profitable. In the last 12 months, VistaTEC has added 25 people to the engineering staff.

The total staff in the Dublin headquarters is now 120, while VistaTEC has also added personnel in the United States and the United Kingdom.
