Lionbridge helps CADTRAIN to "go global"

CADTRAIN, a worldwide provider of e-learning products for PTC's Pro/ENGINEER product design and development software, has chosen Lionbridge as its localisation partner for the company's first international release of its COACH and COACH/LMS e-learning products.

Lionbridge will localise CADTRAIN's COACH and COACH/LMS products. COACH for Pro/ENGINEER is a comprehensive curriculum of e-learning that includes 19 complete courses, more than 800 hours of learning content and 2,500 individual topics related to PTC's Pro/ENGINEER product. COACH/LMS is a Learning Management System for Pro/ENGINEER. Working with Lionbridge, CADTRAIN will provide localised versions of select COACH courses in Japanese, French and German with additional languages to follow.

GlobalVision enters medical technology field

GlobalVision International, a translation and localization provider, has announced that its hybrid localisation methodology has gained efficiencies from 20-30%. By integrating the top-down and bottom-up translation reuse processes and by applying the company's knowledge gained from high-tech fields in electronics, manufacturing, software, test and measurement, GlobalVision has succeeded in meeting the quality, schedule and cost needs of its newly acquired clients: Carl Zeiss Meditec, R2 Technology, Biomerica and Immucor.

Additionally, through its offices in the United States, Europe, Asia and the Middle East, GlobalVision has access to in-country translators specialising in medical technology fields, thus enabling its rapid business growth in those fields.

SAAB Signs with Bowne Global Solutions 

Bowne Global Solutions (BGS), one of the world's leading providers of translation and technical writing services, announced today that it has signed a five-year collaborative business agreement with SAAB AB in Sweden to provide translation, technical writing and technical illustration services for SAAB's aircraft maintenance manuals. BGS, which has been working with SAAB since 1998, will continue to translate the current Swedish Airforce manuals from Swedish into American English. As part of the ongoing business relationship, BGS will also convert the manuals to comply with the AECMA S1000D (Association Européenne des Constructeurs de Matériel Aèrospatial) standard specification using Standard Generalised Mark-up Language (SGML) and Simplified English (SE). This effort will involve technical writers, illustrators and translators, all of whom will work closely together and be based in BGS's Coventry office in the United Kingdom.

BGS and SAAB 2-2-2 BGS is currently at work on manuals for the SAAB Gripen, a supersonic, swing-role fighter aircraft in use by the Swedish Airforce and sold to both the South African and Hungarian Air Forces. BGS has already completed the draft for the Hungary Mod B Gripen, an earlier version of the aircraft that will be used by the Swedish Airforce to train the aircrew and maintenance technicians from the Hungarian Airforce. Later this year, BGS will begin work on publications for the South African Airforce. 

New Version of MultiTerm released by TRADOS

TRADOS, a language technology provider, has released its next-generation terminology management solution, MultiTerm. Built around a multitiered Internet architecture, MultiTerm is a powerful database solution designed to standardize terminology and distribute it throughout the enterprise over the Internet or intranet at the click of a button.

The new release of MultiTerm offers a performance boost that makes it up to 10 times faster and ensures more reliable operation of the software in local as well as in wide-area networks. MultiTerm now supports Oracle 8i/9i. It also supports MS Windows Server 2003 and MS Office 2003. Targeted at freelance customers, the introduction of MultiTerm Convert is designed to migrate external data, such as Microsoft Excel, into MultiTerm format. Redesigned tutorials will provide users with a simple get-started capability.

ISO 9001:2000 Certification Awarded to Idem Translations

Idem Translations was awarded ISO 9001:2000 certification on August 5, 2003, by the TUV America, a subsidiary of Group TUV of Suddeutschland, Germany. Idem focuses on the medical, legal and high-tech industries and provides certified translations of all scientific, technical and marketing materials into and from all the major languages. IDEM is based in Palo Alto, California, and has a European production center in Madrid, Spain.

ISO 9000 is a generic system standard that specifies, in very broad terms, the necessary components of a quality management system. ISO 9000's primary purpose is to provide organisations with useful, internationally recognised models for operating a quality management system. ISO 9001:2000 is the most recent revision of the ISO 9000 standard, which replaces the previous ISO 9000:1994 standard effective December 15, 2003.

Alchemy receives Best Localisation Solution 2003 Award 

Software Business has announced the winners of The Third Annual Software Industry Awards. The awards, which will be presented to the winners during the Software Business 2003 Annual Conference in Boston, are in recognition of their industry-wide leadership with technology initiatives and products, distinguishing their brands and strategies from other companies in their respective sectors. Alchemy CATALYST has been presented with an award in the category of "Best Localisation Solution 2003.
