The Global Initiative for Local Computing

LRC - X will be the venue for the launch of GILC, the Global Initiative for Local Computing. GILC will work with appropriate organisations and individuals around the world to ensure that all people have access to computers and information technologies in their preferred language and following their favoured cultural practices.

GILC will do this by building, on existing frameworks, the infrastructure for regional initiatives to coordinate, pool resources, raise awareness, and communicate on a global level and by removing myths around localisation, dealing with real needs and requirements in an imaginative, creative way.
