IGNITE

The LRC is also pleased to announce that the IGNITE project (Linguistic Infrastructure for Localisation: Language Data, Tools and Standards) has received a favourable review from the European Commission. IGNITE will create and make accessible a linguistic infrastructure for localisation, including language data, tools and standards. Contract negotiations with the commission have been finalised and the contract is currently being prepared for signature. The LRC is looking forward to working with our partners (Archetypon, PASS engineering, Veritest (a division of Lionbridge) and VU Games) on this multi-million euro project.

Localisation Focus Editorial Board

Localisation Focus – The International Journal for Localisation welcomes its new Editorial Board. These eminent individuals, from academia, government and industry, have agreed to provide direction to the Localisation Research Centre for the further development of its quarterly journal. Localisation Focus – The International Journal for Localisation is the only journal dedicated exclusively to localisation and localisation research.

We are very proud to announce the appointment of our journal’s new Editorial Board. Highly respected academics, government and industry-based professionals from around the world, including Africa, Asia and Australia, the Americas and Europe have agreed to join our new Editorial Board. This board will help us to build on the success and reputation of Localisation Focus. We will develop it further as a platform for the exchange of high-quality internationalisation and localisation research, and cover topics emerging from different geographical, linguistic and cultural backgrounds.

The members of the newly appointed, 22 person-strong Editorial Board are:
Tim Altanero, Donald Barabé, Teddy Bengtsson, José Eduardo De Lucca, Carla di Franco, Bert Esselink, Debbie Folaron, Pat Hall, James Michael Hogan, Sarmad Hussain, Lisa Moore, Sharon O’Brien, Maeve Olohan, Pat O'Sullivan, Anthony Pym, Harold Somers, Marcel Thelen, Gregor Thurmair, Om Vikas, Kim Wallmach, Sue Ellen Wright, and Angelika Zerfass.

LRC - X Call for Papers

Call For Papers: LRC - X, The Development Localisation Event. 
The Localisation Research Centre is now inviting proposals for relevant papers for LRC - X, the Global Initiative for Local Computing. 

Proposals should include contact details for the authors and a short, one paragraph, biographical note. They should be approximately 200 words long and should reach the LRC not later than 30 May 2005.

An international panel of experts will review the proposals and authors will be notified by 10 June 2005.
