LRC Conference
The 11th Annual Internationalisation and Localisation Conference organised by the Localisation Research Centre, LRC – XI, took place at the European Foundation in Loughlinstown, Co. Dublin on the 25th and 26th of October 2006. The LRC had put together a great programme which featured speakers from as far
a field as India and as close to home at Dublin City University. While the theme of this year’s event was “The Localisation Factory”, automation in localisation was not the only theme covered at LRC – XI. This year’s conference featured sessions looking at Translation Quality, the work being carried out Outside the Mainstream localisation efforts and also New Media Localisation.
The conference played host to two keynote speeches, one for each day of the event. The first keynote was given by Lisa Moore, the Globalisation Manager for IBM Corporation and a co-author of the Unicode Standard, Versions 2, 3, 4 & 5. The second keynote of the event was given by Richard Ishida, Internationalisation Activity Lead of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C).
All attendees of the conference were invited to attend the complimentary conference social event that evening at the Fitzpatrick Castle Hotel in Kiliney.
In addition to the meal, attendees also witnessed a very special event as The Institute of Localisation Professionals (TILP) announced and presented the Inaugural TILP Fellowship to Brian Kelly at the conference social event.
LRC XI was an outstanding success and the LRC would like to thank all the presenters who contributed to this event. Their presentations are available to view at www.localisation.ie.
The LRC would also like to thank all the attendees whether they came from near or far. We hope they enjoyed this event as much as we did. Our thanks also to the staff at the European Foundation in Loughlinstown who gave us fantastic help and service, the conference centre was excellent from the conference facilities to car parking, catering etc. Many thanks again.
