What is TransRouter
?
TransRouter is a management
tool that will assist translation managers to decide the best approach
by which to carry out their translation projects. TransRouter is being
developed under the Fourth Framework Telematics Applications Programme
and will end in April 2000. TransRouter will evaluate the usefulness of
available resources in the context of a specific translation project and
it will rank various translation scenarios based on the following criteria:
-
Data supplied by the translation
manager
-
The automatic analysis of text
characteristics
-
Profiles and descriptions of backend
systems
-
Profiles of human translators
-
Linguistic resources
The development of a translation
router promises to be of benefit to managers of translation projects, especially
those who have to deal with large numbers of documents to be translated.
Transrouter aims to ease the pressure of decision making and reinforce
confidence in the appropriateness of that decision. TransRouter also has
the potential to be of benefit to a wider user group - those who are considering
investing in computer aids to translation but who need to determine whether
the cost benefit equation will turn out to be positive or negative for
their organisation.
