Standard Organisations
American National Standards Institute (ANSI):
Private,
non-profit organization (501(c)3) that administers and coordinates the
U.S. voluntary standardization and conformity assessment system.
European Computer Manufacturer's Association (AECMA):
International industry association founded in 1961 and dedicated to the
standardization of information and communication systems. It provides
useful information for localisation professionals in areas such as
desktop publishing, printing, document management, etc.
International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO):
Worldwide federation of national standards
bodies from some 140 countries, one from each country.
Localisation Industry Standards Association
(LISA):
In cooperation with industry partners, LISA promotes the localization
and internationalization industry standards.
Organization
for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards (OASIS):
Global consortium that drives the development,
convergence and adoption of e-business standards. Members themselves set
the OASIS technical agenda, using a lightweight, open process expressly
designed to promote industry consensus and unite disparate efforts.
OASIS produces worldwide standards for security, Web services, XML
conformance, business transactions, electronic publishing, topic maps
and interoperability within and between marketplaces.
Unicode Consortium:
It develops, extends and promotes "use of the Unicode Standard, which specifies
the representation of text in modern software products and
standards."
World Wide Web Consortium (W3C):
develops
interoperable technologies (specifications, guidelines, software, and
tools) to lead the Web to its full potential as a forum for information,
commerce, communication, and collective understanding.
