Ignored for many years by the mainstream internationalisation and localisation industries because there was not enough money to be made, African and Asian countries are gearing themselves up to challenge the digital divide.

They have engaged in the localisation of digital content on a large scale, from operating systems to applications and from databases to websites. While much of this work is done in the domain of Open Source Software, commercial software publishers such as Microsoft and Hewlett Packard have also engaged in a number of very significant initiatives. Many of these initiatives are supported by international development agencies such as; the Canadian Government Development Agency, the European Union, and the United Nations.

LRC – X, for the first time, provides an opportunity for the localisation community to find out about these developments first hand.

At LRC – X you will find out what is going to be centre-stage in localisation over the next decade.

Who should attend?
This event is aimed at managers, engineers, translators and internationalisation specialists working in localisation. It is also aimed at businesses, governments, and international development agencies that would like to find out how internationalisation and localisation can help them bridge the digital divide.

Exhibition
This event will also mark the 10th Anniversary of the Localisation Research Centre (LRC). The LRC would like you to join us in celebrating 10 years of research, education and work for the localisation community. A special anniversary exhibition will take a look back in time at what localisation was like 10 years ago.

TILP Social Event
The 4th Annual TILP Social Event, organised by The Institute of Localisation Professionals, will take place on the eve of the LRC - X conference.

Fees

Day 1 - €100 (€50 TILP Members)

Day 2 - €300 (€150 TILP Members)

Localisation Event (Evening of Day 1) - €100 (€50 TILP Members)

Both Days (including Localisation Event) - €400 (€200 TILP Members)

Special Invitations
In recognition of the financial constraints placed upon many of the people that this conference would be relevant to, the LRC have decided to implement the following measures:

Free conference registration for a limited number (50) of delegates subject to individual financial constraints. Please contact LRC@ul.ie should you feel that you might be eligible for a free registration.

The authors of the 10 best papers submitted will receive free conference registration* and a cash re-imbursement to be put towards their travel expenses. A review board appointed by the LRC will select these papers.
