LRC Professional Development Courses 2003

In February 2003, the LRC held four Professional Development courses. All courses took place in the Localisation Technology Research Laboratory and Showcase (LOTS) at the University of Limerick. Attendance was free (and compulsory for students of the Graduate Diploma in Software Localisation and its modules e.g. Localisation Process I and II). 

Evidence of successful completion of these Professional Development Courses (PDC) will be considered as part-fulfilment of the requirements for professional membership of The Institute of Localisation Professionals (TILP). For further details visit www.tilponline.org.

Programme  

Day 1:  TRADOS – Translators’ Workbench  

Tuesday, 11 February
10:00am – 16:00pm

Antóin ÓSlatara and Deirdre Coffey (LRC)

Preparations of file for processing with TRADOS, use of Terminology Databases, Translation Memories, re-use of previously translated material, updating.  

Day 2:  Alchemy Catalyst: Basic Course 
Alchemy Catalyst: Advance Course

Wednesday, 12 February
10:00am – 16:00

Michael Duffy (Alchemy Software)

.Net and XML/XLIFF Localisation Technologies

Tony O’Dowd (MD, Alchemy Software)

This presentation will take place around mid-day on Wednesday, after the completion of the Catalyst Basic Course.  

Day 3:  Project Management and MS Project  

Thursday, 13 February
10:00 – 16:00

Tom Connolly (Consultant)

How to manage projects, what is so different about managing a localisation project, appropriate management techniques and strategies.

Using Microsoft Project for planning and tracking localisation projects.  

Day 4:  Quality Assurance and Test Automation  

Friday, 14 February
10:00 – 16:00

Reinhard Schäler and Rafael Guzman (LRC)

Introduction to QA, testing, why localisation testing is different, test automation, automation using Segue Silk Test.
