The Localisation Research Centre will hold its First International Localisation Summer School in June 2001 at the University of Limerick, Ireland. This Summer School is supported by a large number of localisation companies and individual localisation experts.

Why a Localisation Summer School?

To provide students who do not have the opportunity to attend the full time courses run by the University to learn about software localisation

To provide professionals in the industry with a forum where they can discuss new and emerging issues and technologies

Which courses will be offered?
The First LRC Localisation Summer School 2001 will offer three courses:

Foundation course in software localisation (2 days)
This course is aimed at participants with little or no prior knowledge of software localisation. Following a ½ day plenary session, the course will be offered in three streams, each of 1½ days duration.

Localisation and cultural diversity (1 day)
This course is aimed at participants who would like to learn about and discuss issues arising in the context of eLocalisation in a global web-based economy.

Advanced course in software localisation (2 days)
This course is aimed at localisation professionals who would like to learn about new trends and technologies and exchange views with their peers. Following a ½ day plenary session, the course will be offered in three streams, each of 1½ days duration.

Hands-on
All courses will be delivered, where appropriate, in designated computer laboratories and are designed to provide hands-on experience to participants. (Plenary sessions and the course on Localisation and cultural diversity will be held in a purpose-built lecture theatre.)

Certificate
All participants will receive an LRC Certificate, with details of the course they attended.

Course handbook
All participants will receive a course handbook.
