This is the text of the presentation given by Tom Grogan to the SLIG 96 annual conference on 14th October 1996. The theme of the conference was ‘Localisation and the Web’.

Opening

This short presentation attempts to address the need for localisation service providers to implement truly global processes in a virtual company scenario in order to satisfactorily meet ever increasing client demands for sim-ship localised versions of their products. A key element in the implementation of this solution is a robust, cost effective, and dependable communications system and here the Internet has a role to play. In the short time available, I will try to position this role in respect of the cultural paradigm shift that is required. The two subsequent presentations in this session will hopefully then build on this basic introduction.
