TechLink Consortium Meeting
A TechLink Consortium meeting took place in Mumbai,
India from January 14-16 2008. The main purpose of this meeting
was to develop a detailed plan of action for 2008 and look at
how to build upon the work that had been carried out in 2007.
Topics discussed at this meeting included the considerable
work carried out in putting together a framework and
developing content for the delivery of distance learning courses combined with onsite training.

Universitat Rovira I Virgili join TechLink
The TechLink consortium are happy to welcome the
Intercultural Studies Group of Universitat
Rovira I Virgili to the TechLink project and
consortium. The Intercultural Studies Group are experts in the training of teachers in new translation technologies, training translators and interpreters, as well as online training in translation.
They replace the Open University in the TechLink
Consortium.
TechLink organises Q&A session ASLIB Translating and the
Computer 28
Various members of the TechLink consortium participated in
a special TechLink Ask the Expert session session organised by
consortium member, the
Institute of Localisation Professionals, at ASLIB
Translating and the Computer 28 Conference. TechLink: Training and Education for Localisation was the theme
this event in London on 16th November 2006. It provided a deep insight into training requirements from the perspective of all major stakeholders in localisation, presented by senior figures in their respective
fields. Consortium members Reinhard Schäler (Director, Localisation Research
Centre, Ireland), Pat Hall (Nepal, Project Director) and M. Sasikumar (C-DAC, Mumbai, India, Senior
Researcher) were joined by Liam Cronin (Microsoft, Ireland, publisher); Charles Campbell
(spanishbackoffice, Argentina, service provider); Miram Lee (Vice President Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs and Freelance Translator, Ireland), Tim Altanero (Austin Community College, USA, course director) and Debbie Folaron (Concordia University, Canada, course
director) as they looked at important issues in this very
important area of education.
TechLink Project Kick-off Meeting
The project kick-off meeting for the EU TechLink project took
place at the Copthorne Tara Hotel in London, England on November 15
2006. Representatives from each member of the project consortium,
the Localisation Research Centre, the Open University, C-DAC Mumbai
and the Institute of Localisation Professionals, took this
opportunity to map out the first actions of the TechLink project and
make strategic decisions on resources, division of work and inter-organisation
cooperation.
